Start Here: A Welcome Guide
You found this because something isn’t working, and the explanations you’ve been given don’t match the reality you’re living.
Maybe your labs came back normal. Maybe someone told you to pace yourself, drink more water, try yoga. Maybe you’ve been doing everything right — eating carefully, resting more than you’ve ever rested in your life — and your body is still running some calculation you don’t have access to, producing a cost you didn’t agree to pay.
You’re not crazy. You’re not exaggerating. And you’re not failing at recovery.
Your body is running an emergency protocol. It got very good at surviving something, and it hasn’t gotten the signal yet that the emergency is over. That’s not weakness. That’s exactly what a well-designed system does.
I started this publication because I spent a decade inside that same logic — different illness, same architecture. And I’ve spent fifteen years since then working with people whose bodies are doing the same thing. What I’ve learned is that the single most useful thing I can do is give you the map. Not tell you where to go. Give you the map, and get out of your way.
Everything here is written to help you understand what’s happening in your system — clearly enough that you can start making sense of your own experience. You’re the expert on your body. I’m just someone who’s spent a lot of time learning the terrain.
Where to go from here
One of the things this illness does is make reading feel like lifting something heavy. So I’m not going to send you to an index. I’m going to ask you one question first:
How much energy do you have today?
1. If you’re completely crashed right now
If you opened this on a bad day — if you’re in a dark room, or the crash is fresh, or you just need to know that someone gets it — start here. These don’t ask anything of you. Just read.
Everything changes when you can see your Long COVID fatigue as protection rather than failure This one reframes the exhaustion. Not in a toxic-positivity way. In a “here’s what your body is actually doing” way. If you’ve ever wondered why rest doesn’t seem to work the way it should, this is where I’d send you first.
Long COVID Didn’t Just Take Our Joy. It Left Our Anger Intact. For when the sadness is layered and complicated. For when you’re not sure which part of what you’re feeling is grief and which part is something closer to fury.
Your Body Got Really Good at Being Sick A short one. If you only have ten minutes, read this. It names what most people aren’t naming.
2. If you want to understand the science
If your brain is working today and you want to understand the mechanisms — the actual physiology of what’s happening and why — this is where the deep work lives.
The Fuel Series is a collection of articles on how Long COVID disrupts the systems that produce and deliver energy at the cellular level. Each piece takes one mechanism apart and shows you how it works:
Why Long COVID Leaves You Running on Fumes by 2pm — The cortisol piece. Your body’s alarm system is stuck in a state it can’t exit. This explains why.
Why Long COVID Crashes Hit Without Warning — and Don’t Respond to Rest — The mitochondria piece. The power plants themselves are damaged. Rest isn’t the problem. This is what’s actually broken.
How Long COVID Leaves Your Cells Starving Even When You’re Eating Well — The insulin resistance piece. The fuel is there. The cells can’t receive it.
Your Thyroid Tests Came Back Normal. Here’s What They Missed. — The thyroid piece. A normal TSH is not the whole picture. Not even close.
Navigating this and perimenopause at the same time? Read Why Long COVID Recovery Changes Week to Week — and What Perimenopause Has to Do With It.
The Dopamine Series runs alongside the Fuel Series and tracks a different disruption — what happens when Long COVID damages the system that produces motivation, regulates mood, controls sleep, and modulates pain:
How Long COVID Suppresses Dopamine Production — The upstream mechanism. Where it starts.
REM Sleep, Brain Fog, and the Molecule Long COVID is Depriving You Of — The sleep piece. Why the brain fog is real, why the sleep doesn’t restore, and how they’re connected.
3. If you’re ready for individualized support
If you’ve been reading for a while, or if something you’ve read here described your experience clearly enough that you know you want to go deeper — I work one-on-one with Long COVID clients remotely.
The one-on-one work addresses what the articles can’t: the specific signal pattern in your system, the place where your body got stuck, and the communication that needs to happen between your nervous system and your physiology.
A free 20-minute consultation is where we start. No pitch, no pressure. An honest conversation about what’s happening in your body and whether this approach is a fit.
A note on how this publication works
Everything in the free section of this publication is free. The weekly articles cover the mechanisms — what’s broken, why it’s broken, how the body got there, and what it needs to shift. The paid tier adds the complete protocols: step-by-step practices you can do at home, the clinical observations from my work with clients, and the deeper tools.
But start with the free content. That’s where I put the map.
And if a given week you don’t have the energy to read at all — that’s fine too. The information will be here when you’re ready.
About Kari Mitchell
I’m a practitioner with fifteen years of clinical experience and a decade of personal history with a very similar illness. I’ve been where you are — not with Long COVID specifically, but in a body running a protocol I hadn’t agreed to, trying to survive something that medical testing couldn’t fully see.
Energy healing is what got me out. I know how that sounds, and I’m also not going to apologize for it. It worked. That’s what matters. Everything I write here is an attempt to give you what I wish I’d had: an explanation that actually matches the experience.
